cARTIER-bRESSON - phOTOS


Known as one of France's most famous photographers, Henri Cartier-Bresson had a major influence on photography of the 20th century. Cartier-Bresson was well known for the use of the 35mm camera and for his spontaneous photography. Unlike many photographers at the time, Cartier-Bresson did not set up any of his photos. He waited until the perfect moment to take his shots. These photos could never be retaken, making his work all the more impressive. One of his most famous photographs is one named "The Decisive Moment" in which we see a man leap into a puddle of water. What makes it so interesting is that Cartier-Bresson was able to catch this man before he landed in the water. The casting of his shadow on the water is marvelous as well as the ladder which he leaped from. If Cartier-Bresson would have waited any longer, this photo would never have
